You are about to embark on a most delightful journey.

Congratulations! You have discovered the hidden portion of the Opposing Forces exhibit.

In order to view the works on display in this part of the exhibition, you will begin a journey to uncover 13 artist’s books hidden throughout the library.

To locate the works, you will become a participant in a scavenger hunt where you will be asked to locate a hidden work in the collection, read a set of directions, and complete a set of tasks as outlined in each book. Once you have completed each task, instructions for locating the next work will be revealed to you.

This scavenger hunt begins September 9th, 2011, and is limited to the first 150 participants. Those participants who successfully complete all 13 tasks before the end of the exhibition will be awarded a place on the “Wall of Champions,” which will be on display at the Barrington Area Library's Gallery in the Library through November 5th, 2011.

Additionally, those participants who both earn a place on the “Wall of Champions” on or before October 14, 2011, and are present at the artist’s reception that evening will earn a limited edition work of art to take home with them.

Your journey begins here.

Each participant will be searching for books hidden throughout the library’s main floor stacks. Each book has been given a specific call number that places it in a very strategic section of the library, and by some small modification, each book's call number will set it apart from other books in the library's collection. To be successful in this journey, know that context is crucial, how information unfolds is relevant, and the ability to follow directions is imperative.

The first step is always the hardest, so you must locate the first book's call number on your own. Still can’t figure out where to start? Maybe it would be practical to do some research on Exhibits in Libraries...
